Haiti Update 3-8-10

We arrived back into New Bedford at noon on Sunday.  Good to be home!

On Saturday morning we went to Port-au-Prince with the last of the tents (over 100).  It was overwhelming to have so many people at the airport asking for tents – we gave them to a pastor who was going to see that they were delivered, and he handled the crowd – the need is so great…

We were also met at the airport by Pierre Brunache (formerly from Community Covenant Church and now working with USAID in Haiti).  He took us to Pierre Leger’s home for a three hour meeting.

Along the way we traveled along roads we had traveled several times before – the deeper into Port-au-Prince the more destruction is everywhere.

There is no equipment moving the debris anywhere to be found – the thought of the number of bodies still buried under the buildings is staggering.  This picture (below) is of a school that is partially collapsed. If you look at the top of the building you can see the desks still in the classrooms.

Here is an entrance to a tent city.  Tent cities are everywhere.

The destruction and loss is unimaginable and after having seen it – it is impossible to comprehend.

The meeting with Pierre Leger was very informative and certainly helped us to set the stage for further “Development Efforts.”

We have a lot to process and organize and we are expecting to have a conversation time with everyone after the “The Hole in Our Gospel” campaign to determine our calling in the Development Effort that is needed.

Thanks for your prayers and support – we’re glad to be with you.

Scott and Pastor Dennis
