Jonathan - A Lesson Of Love

Loving Others in Their Otherness

Life is messy.  Relationships are messy.  We sometimes believe that messes can be fixed quickly, as they are on a TV sitcom.  In everyday life, things don't work that way.  In this series we are going to be talking about "Loving Others In Their Otherness."  We all have friends, family members or a spouse who have "otherness" or "strangeness". Navigating the "otherness" in ourselves and people around us is one of the things we all struggle with.

The Bible is one story based on God's interaction with His people.  This makes the Bible a unique book among religious literature.  Throughout the Bible there are stories within sorites, but it is all part of a single narrative.  King David's story is amazing and holds many messy relationships.  Studying David's relationships helps us understand people's otherness and how messy relationships can work in God's world.

Church Update From The Elders

Happy New Year to everyone!  We hope that the holiday season was filled with many special moments and blessings for each of you and your families.  As we look back at the first four months of the 2011-12 church year (September - December), we are filled with excitement and gratitude about all that has been accomplished.

We sponsored another very successful Community Work Weekend that provided much needed assistance to the Greenlock Therapeutic Riding Center in Rehoboth.  Our Teachers Training Teachers team sponsored another workshop for 20 teachers in Chambrun, Haiti.  The fifth annual Global Leadership Summit in Haiti - now entirely run by Haitian leaders - celebrated the highest-ever number of participants at two presentation locations.

We also offered the opportunity for people to learn more about and become engaged with the work of Women Reaching Women at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institute and on the issue of human trafficking.
