Better Moms Make A Better World

You may be a mother, live with a mother, or know a mother who has been trapped in a scene that looks remarkably similar to this:  You have one crying child on your hip and one attached to your leg.  You make your way to the kitchen in the dim morning light only to step on your toddler’s foot, an array of Legos, and something, well, squishy.  The milk in the refrigerator is spoiled, you feel the evidence of a no-leak diaper’s false advertisement, and as life would have it, you’re out of coffee.  The good news is the sun will be up soon.  The bad news is the rest of the day will be filled with much of the same exhausting tedium and tomorrow holds the same forecast.  With your hands thrown up in a feeling of defeat, you ponder a few questions:

How is it that one of God’s greatest gifts and highest callings can leave me feeling so exasperated? So frustrated? So isolated? Surely He wouldn’t have entrusted me with such a responsibility only to fail.  How could I possibly make it to the other side of this mountain without losing my mind? Is this really the purpose God has for me?

Mothering takes on numerous shapes and designs.   Whether you are a working mom, stay-at-home mom, married, single, young, old, new, or experienced mom, you likely have asked yourself some of those very questions.  You should be encouraged to know that you are not alone and there is purpose in your sometimes mundane season.

It isn’t just about surviving this season, however, but seeing past the mundane, the tedium and the struggles to be able to celebrate those tasks as gifts and blessings-- as God sees them.  It’s about finding the fulfillment in the mundane, the tedium, and the struggles to do it each day knowing that it is part of a plan bigger than you and that you are an integral part of carrying out that plan.  Do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you (Col. 3:17, paraphrased).  When our ordinary takes on God’s glory it suddenly becomes an opportunity instead of a chore.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) was created to help moms find that fulfillment.  MOPS at Community Covenant Church is a place for mothers to come and be filled with encouragement, practical tips and Biblical truths to apply to their daily lives.  MOPS is more than a program designed for mothers to gather and share their struggles and celebrate their victories.  It is also a community, a family of women who are linked through unique circumstances and an aching desire to feel understood.  It is an opportunity created for moms to connect, to give a word of hope and encouragement, or perhaps a silent hug to fellow mom.  MOPS is a platform designed to strengthen mothers who have a profound effect on the strength of their families, the church, the community and the world.   Real lives are changed by the influence of MOPS.

Community Covenant Church attempts to change lives on purpose every day.  “We are working hard at providing tools to equip families and partner with them to live out effective lives for God’s purpose.  Adding the MOPS ministry to our toolbox is one way we believe we can do that.  We are so excited that God has given us an opportunity to make such a difference in the lives of the families of our church and community.   We look forward to watching His plan for this ministry unfold,” states Kara Daniello, our Nursery/Preschool Team Leader.

Community Covenant Church will kick-off MOPS on October 7, 2011 at 9:30 in the church cafe. If you know a mother who could use some encouragement and might benefit from MOPS, please feel free to forward this article.  For more information about MOPS at Community Covenant Church you may contact Kari O'Brien at 508-252-3579 or click here.
